Celtic are believed to be closing in on a deal for St Mirren teenager, Dylan Reid, having reportedly agreed a fee for the promising midfielder.

What's the word?

According to Football Scotland, the Glasgow side have had a £125k offer accepted by their fellow Scottish Premiership side for the 17-year-old, with the Parkhead outfit now needing to agree personal terms with the player himself.

The report suggests that title-winning coach Ange Postecoglou was set for a zoom call with the youngster on Monday, with the Scotsman having been 'granted permission' by his current side to engage in talks with the Scottish champions.

The Hoops boss has recently confirmed the club's interest in the Kilbirnie-born ace  - who has just a year remaining on his existing deal - albeit with Old Firms rivals Rangers also said to be in the mix for his signature.

The Teen has been described as a "highly-rated young talent" by Stephen Robinson.

Brown 2.0?

Although such a move would no doubt be with one eye on the future - with Postecoglou admitting that Reid would likely link up with the club's B team initially - it would still represent a real coup to snap up one of the most promising young talents in Scotland.

The £225k-rated starlet has already made four senior appearances for the Buddies thus far, notably playing the full 90 minutes against his potential future club in the stalemate back in December, with the Buddies having been decimated due to an outbreak of the global pandemic.

The Scotland U17 international - who made his club debut against the Gers back in March 2021 - appears to be set for pastures new this summer, having spent the second half of last term on loan at Queen's Park.

A defensive midfielder by trade, the hope will be that he could potentially emerge as Celtic's next Scott Brown in the coming years, with the club's former influential skipper having for so long been the glue holding everything together in midfield, prior to his departure last summer.

The now-retired brute - who was recently appointed manager of Fleetwood Town - was revered for his no-nonsense, hard-nosed approach, although that firm exterior often saw his ball-playing talents overlooked, with the one-time Hibernian more than just a fierce competitor.

In his 14-year stay with the club - 11 of which were spent as captain - the Dunfermline-born menace won a staggering ten league titles and a plethora of other domestic honours, notably playing his part in the club's nine-in-a-row triumph.

Emulating such a cult figure will no doubt be difficult, although in years to come Postecoglou and co could well have a new leading figure in their ranks in the form of young Reid.
