Celtic: Dylan Reid deal now “back on”

Celtic reportedly have renewed hope of signing St Mirren starlet, Dylan Reid, with the Scottish champions set to make another approach to try and tempt the teenager into making the move to Parkhead.

What’s the word?

That’s according to journalist Mark Hendry, who wrote on Twitter regarding a potential swoop for the 17-year-old: “EXCLUSIVE! Dylan Reid’s Celtic transfer back ON after St Mirren kid’s previous Hoops snub.”

In his attached piece for Football Scotland, the respected source revealed that the Old Firm out have made a fresh attempt to sign the midfielder, after the youngster had previously snubbed the £125k move to Glasgow.

The report suggests that Ange Postecoglou and co are keen to strike a deal before Thursday’s deadline, as they look to win the race for a player who is also believed to be attracting interest from clubs south of the border.

The title-winning coach has previously confirmed his side’s interest in the promising playmaker, who has just a year remaining on his existing deal in Paisley.

Special future

While any move will likely be with an eye on the future – with Reid in line to join the development set-up with the Hoops – the club’s desire to get him in the door is a marker of just what a talent he truly is.

The “highly-rated” gem – as described by manager Stephen Robinson – has made just six senior appearances for his current side to date, although the indication is that he could well be in for a bright future in the years to come.

Will Celtic sign Dylan Reid?

Yes!

Yes!

No

No

That is the verdict of St Mirren chief executive Tony Fitzpatrick, who recently lauded the Scotland U17 international, stating that: “Reid has got power, pace, intelligence and technical ability. I remember watching him coming through the different youth age groups in the academy and thinking ‘this boy will be a special player’.”

The hope will be that he can live up to such a glowing assessment were he to make the switch to Celtic Park before the close of the window, with Postecoglou likely to enjoy the task of nurturing his prodigious talent over the coming years.

The £225k-rated sensation has already showcased what he can do against the Scottish Premiership giants in recent times, playing the full 90 minutes for the Buddies when the two sides met back in December.

While his impact has thus far been fleeting at his current club, the fact that he has already been involved at first-team level at such a young age is a testament to his quality.

First up in this Celtic transfer quiz, which club did Celtic sign Christopher Jullien from?

After having seen their own academy gems such as Ben Doak and Leo Hjelde snapped up over the past year, it would be nice for Celtic to be able to poach a young talent of their own for a change in the form of Reid.
