Celtic have been issued a warning regarding their current goalkeeper situation ahead of the January transfer window.

What's been said?

Writing in his column for the Daily Record, the former Celtic centre-forward, Chris Sutton, stated his belief that it would be a nightmare for Ange Postecoglou and his side if the club's number one shot-stopper, Joe Hart, were to pick up an injury, as the Bhoys currently have no adequate cover for the 34-year-old.

Speaking about the current goalkeeper situation at Parkhead, Sutton said: "Now I do realise it would be a nightmare if Joe Hart was missing for games. There is not adequate cover there for someone who has really impressed."

Nicholson must act

With it being recently reported that both Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain are expected to leave Celtic in the January transfer window, it would certainly appear as if the signing of another option between the sticks is an absolute must for Michael Nicholson this winter.

Indeed, should Hart be sidelined for whatever reason, as Sutton suggests, Postecoglou would only realistically be left with the option of the 23-year-old Conor Hazard in goal, who, while he is a Northern Ireland international, has made a grand total of just eight appearances for the Hoops.

As such, with Celtic's primary objective this season undoubtedly being to reclaim their Scottish Premiership crown, the Bhoys simply must ensure that they bring in an adequate backup for Joe Hart during the upcoming transfer window, as relying on the inexperienced Hazard could end up proving extremely costly for the club's title hopes.

And, with both David Marshall and Fraser Forster looking to be available on cut-price deals this January, Nicholson has no excuse not to make a move to bring IN either one of these players - both of whom would appear to be excellent candidates to not only provide Hart with backup but with genuine competition for his starting spot - back to Parkhead for the second half of the current campaign.

Indeed, if Celtic do not manage to bring a new 'keeper in, and Hart does go on to pick up an injury, Postecoglou would quite rightly be furious.
