This has the potential to be an extremely busy day for Celtic as the Hoops frantically attempt to conclude a number of deals before the window closes.
The deadline will pass at 11pm and before then, we could see three new faces at Parkhead.
With Ryan Christie and Odsonne Edouard on the verge of taking their leave from Celtic, Ange Postecoglou already has two replacements in mind.
However, Postecoglou will try and bring in one further body before the window closes according to Michael Gannon of the Daily Record.
Writing in his morning column, the journalist said: “Ange Postecoglou will also attempt to land a centre back on loan.”
If Celtic can conclude a deal for a further centre-back before the clock strikes 11pm then supporters should be elated with their work in the transfer window.
Aside from an additional left-back, it’s the last remaining piece of the jigsaw in terms of the Bhoys’ hefty recruitment this summer.
Kristoffer Ajer left for Brentford in a deal worth around £17.5m but his successor in Carl Starfelt has hardly been convincing since penning terms.
The Swede looked a shrewd addition but his defending has left plenty to be desired. He’s attracted early criticism and after a disastrous own goal against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League, it’s clear to see why.
Starfelt also struggled with the physicality of Alfredo Morelos in the Old Firm derby last weekend.
Nir Bitton has found life difficult in the early stages of the season while further new signing, Liam Shaw, hasn’t been deemed ready for first-team life as of yet.
Celtic’s defence was their main issue last season so they will need all the bodies in that region of the pitch as they can get in order to improve.
They shipped 16 more goals than Rangers in the Premiership throughout 2020/21 so it’s evident they could do with strengthening.
Who arrives remains to be seen. Celtic were linked with a loan move for Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga on deadline day in the winter while his teammate, Cameron Carter-Vickers, has been an option throughout the summer.
Either way, supporters should be elated that Postecoglou is trying to improve what is a clear weakness.
