This has been a wonderful January transfer window for Celtic who with just a few days left of the market, have already brought in five new faces to bolster Ange Postecoglou's squad.

It remains to be seen whether any new signings are acquired but for now, the focus is very much on clearing deadwood.

What's the word?

Celtic have been tipped to shift on the likes of Vasilis Barkas and Albian Ajeti over the winter but has so far proven unsuccessful in their quest to do so.

The former nearly joined Sheffield United until the Blades favoured an alternative option but the Hoops have now been handed a big boost in their bid to sell Ajeti.

On Thursday, it was reported that the Swiss forward was of interest to his former employers, Basel, who were looking to replace the outgoing Arthur Cabral, who is moving to Fiorentina, with the Celtic forward.

Indeed, Cabral's switch to Juve is now on the verge of competition, per Fabrizio Romano.

He tweeted yesterday evening: "Brazilian striker Arthur Cabral has just landed in Florence in order to complete his move to Fiorentina from FC Basel. €14.5m plus bonuses fee agreed."

Fans buzzing

If Cabral does head to Italy and it frees up room for Basel to bring back Ajeti then fans of Celtic will surely be relieved, if not buzzing.

The ex-West Ham striker was somewhat of a marquee signing when they initially lured him to the club in the summer of 2020, but sadly he's been a huge disappointment.

He was brought to Paradise in a deal worth £4.5m but has not lived up to that price tag, struggling on a regular basis during his time in Scotland.

The 24-year-old found the back of the net on just six occasions in 30 appearances last term and hasn't done much better in 2021/22 either.

This time around, Ajeti has scored three goals in 17 outings, while failing to kick a ball in anger since November when he was last in the squad.

Clearly not in Postecoglou's good books, it would make sense for Celtic to get rid of him as soon as possible. After all, when everyone is fit, the Bhoys won't be short of options up top with Kyogo Furuashi, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Daizen Maeda all competing for places.

Therefore, if they can ship him out before the deadline closes next week, fans will be delighted to see the back of him. He hasn't been good enough at all.
