Celtic are in dire need of recruiting more players after a simply disastrous start to the new season.
The Bhoys have been dumped out of Europe at the first attempt and lost to a newly-promoted side on the opening day of the new league campaign.
The Hoops are in real strife in the early parts of the term and will need Ange Postecoglou to convince the board that they need more recruits to improve the first-team squad.
One player who Celtic have been thinking of signing is Tottenham goalkeeper Joe Hart.
Reports last week stated that they could sign him on a free transfer and there has now been an update on their pursuit from journalist Alan Nixon.
He took to Twitter to produce the following exciting five-word claim: “Hart deffo being looked into.”
If Celtic can secure the services of a new goalkeeper this summer then fans would surely be elated, so they’ll be buzzing to see that the interest in Hart is for real.
After all, that area of the pitch is one of the weakest points for Postecoglou.
He shouldn’t be surprised at that assessment, however, because the likes of Scott Bain and Vasilis Barkas both struggled last term.
They both made individual errors, with the Greek stopper being dropped for the vast majority of the second part of the season.
Both goalkeepers have been in shoddy form to start the 2021/22 season as well. Barkas should have saved a free-kick that flew into the net during the first-leg encounter with Midtjylland while Bain was caught in no man’s land for John Souttar’s winner in the defeat to Hearts.
Consequently, the addition of Hart would be invaluable to Celtic’s success this term.
The former England international hasn’t been a regular since signing for Tottenham but possesses enormous experience and has a fabulous trophy cabinet to boot.
Hart has been capped 75 times by his country and has won two Premier League titles.
The ‘keeper’s best days are certainly beyond him but at the age of 34, he still has plenty left in the tank to provide consistent performances.
He has shown throughout his career that he is reliable, proven and ready for the big moments. With that in mind, it would surely calm the atmosphere from supporters regarding the club’s backline. Celtic should jump at the opportunity to acquire his services.
