This has been a January of mixed fortunes for Celtic and Ange Postecoglou with 2022 starting with positive results and transfers, but negativity in the fitness room.

With that final point in mind, there could be more business concluded between now and the deadline surpassing.

What's the word?

That's according to Mark Guidi who was speaking on Go Radio (via Vital Celtic) this week, who tipped Celtic to land at least two more signings in the coming days after injuries and player availability wreaked havoc with Postecoglou's squad.

He said: "I think with Maeda being away also and Furuhashi, it’s not been confirmed how long he is out for but the suspicion is that it could be months rather than weeks.

“But I would agree, I think it would have to be in the thinking of Ange Postecoglou to try and get a striker and probably a loan deal between now and an end of the season.

“I think that would have to be in his thinking because if Maeda is away for the next couple of weeks,  you’ve got Giakoumakis, who had a brilliant finish on Saturday. But what happens if he gets injured?

“Potentially no number nine or maybe even for Saturday, certainly for next Wednesday so I think that’s got to be something that they’re looking at.”

Exciting times

It's likely that Celtic fans will have been feeling rather gutted with Kyogo ruled out for a while and Maeda also called up by his country, Japan.

However, the idea that Postecoglou could dip into the transfer market again before January 31st in order to soften those blows is one that will leave fans buzzing.

As Guidi references, Giakoumakis has been exceptional since finally earning minutes in this Hoops side, scoring in consecutive games now.

However, his lack of fitness has been a concern this term and if he does pick up another problem that puts him on the treatment table, they will be left rather empty in the striker department.

As a result, the addition of another player in that position is something that should enthuse the club's recruitment team.

Who that will be, remains to be seen, but they will surely be an upgrade on the man that would have to fill Giakoumakis' void should anything happen to him.

That, of course, is Albian Ajeti, a forward who has found the net on just three occasions throughout 2021/22 and a player linked with a regular move away.

Guidi clearly recognises that the offensive area needs more bodies and if the manager goes on to do exactly that, fans will surely be elated, especially after the success of two of his signings already this month, with Reo Hatate and Matt O'Riley starring on debut.
