If Celtic are to close the gap between themselves and their biggest rivals in Scottish football, Ange Postecoglou will need to bring new faces to Parkhead in January.

Considering the Hoops brought 12 fresh players to Glasgow last summer, that feels like a bit of a maddening statement but they are still short in a few areas.

Injuries to the likes of Jota, Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis this term means a forward could arrive in Daizen Maeda while German defender Niko Giesselmann has also been linked in recent weeks and months.

That said, it's in the middle of the park where Postecoglou could undoubtedly do with more bodies. Attacking midfielders have been lacking of late while there is a shortage of convincing defensive midfielders too.

Ismaila Soro has barely seen any football while Liam Shaw is also struggling to make the grade in his first few months at Celtic.

That all comes after Scott Brown's exit during the summer. The former skipper decided to leave the Bhoys behind and with it, a glaring hole was left in the middle of the park.

Callum McGregor has done a wonderful job as the captain after taking on the duties but no one quite replicates the type of presence and aggression supplied by Brown.

Therefore, signing someone with similar qualities in January would be a good idea. One player linked with the club is Gremio's Fernando Henrique.

Speaking to Everything Celtic, Almanaque Esportivo, said that the 20-year-old was a player who "has good skills in tackling and positioning," while hailing his  'strong physicality'.

That said, he also offers attributes that Brown didn't really have in his locker, like speed and the ability to pop up in the opposition's penalty area.

For that, Esportivo added that the Brazilian is "a skilled central midfielder like Petrov." referencing the former midfield great, Stan, who made over 200 appearances for Celtic.

If they can capture a player who brings the best of both Brown and Petrov to Parkhead, they'd have a tremendous player on their hands.

Postecoglou has already shown he's a dab hand when it comes to recruitment and this would surely be another bargain capture.
