Barcelona could make history, English sides off the pace

The Champions League 2015/16 season is officially underway, and as predicted, the English sides have endured a poor start to the campaign.

Both Manchester clubs suffered 2-1 defeats to Juventus and PSV respectively, and 2014 winners Real Madrid got off to a stunning start with a 4-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

Reigning champions Barcelona do have the chance this season to make history. No side has ever won the tournament back-to-back since the European cup was renamed the Champions League in 1992.

Luis Enrique’s side were unstoppable in last year’s tournament, with Juventus running them close in the final. The Italian giants were strong against City yesterday and could be in with a chance to lift the trophy this time around. However, many speculate that Barcelona could become the first side to claim this noble achievement.

With Chelsea collecting only 4 points so far this season, and with Arsenal struggling past the last 16 in previous seasons, it is looking pretty bleak for English teams in Europe this year.
