If there was one word to sum up Mile Jedinak’s season then strange would likely suffice.
The Australian began the campaign playing at centre half under Steve Bruce, a decision that didn’t go well before he then grew into the role under Dean Smith, looking a completely different player.
Jedinak has gone from being a scapegoat at the start of the term to now playing a starring role, finding the back of the net with his only kick of the game during Aston Villa’s penalty shoot-out victory on Tuesday night.
He was brought on specifically for penalties and it seems as though the Villa Park faithful absolutely loved his contribution.
His celebration after scoring the penalty involved a menacing look towards the crowd which provoked one fan to respond by calling it the moment of the season. Another branded it as hilarious.
The midfielder earned heaps of praise from the Villa supporters with a further individual calling him a warrior. He also earned plaudits for his professionalism.
At 34, Jedinak has earned a reputation as a penalty specialist throughout his career, regularly taking them for both Australia and Crystal Palace down the years.
Here’s the best of the reaction.
Warrior’s the word.

In hindsight might of been better off starting him tonight to nullify the inevitable set peice attacks. Great penalty. Not phased one bit. #AVFC

He always takes penalties for Australia and I genuinely can’t remember the last time he missed one. Was hoping he would come on and take one because that man doesn’t miss. The Australian Iceman. #UTV

The cheek of him was brilliant. Not touched the ball, strolled up buried the penalty and just walks away! Hilarious.
