Agbonlahor delighted with Benteke performance

Aston Villa striker Christian BentekeAston Villa attacker Gabriel Agbonlahor praised his forward partner Christian Benteke, following their Premier League victory against Reading.

The Belgian, who was signed during summer, netted the only goal of the game during the final ten minutes to hand the Villains a much-needed three points.

Agbonlahor, who was captain for the evening, heaped praise on the young striker, insisting he is a fans’ favourite already:

“You can tell by the fans’ reaction how much they’ve taken to him.” He told SkySports.

“He’s still only 21 but he’s doing great for us. He’s helped us with the goal tonight and all credit to him.”

Agbonlahor was happy with the result, but not so much the performance of his side:

“It was a scrappy game but we’ll take the three points and move on.”

Midfielder Barry Bannan echoed his sentiments:

“There’s less expectation against the big clubs and it was hard to come out tonight and win the game but we dug in and got the three points.”

Bannan teed up Benteke for the winning goal, as the centre-forward met his cross with a powerful header.

Reading were unable to mount a comeback in the dying minutes despite enjoying some solid spells of possession in the Villa half.
