Aston Villa failed with late move for 20 goals in 52 Prem games attacker

Relegation-threatened Aston Villa have failed with a dramatic late move for former Swansea attacker Michu, according to reports from The Sun.

The 29-year-old Spaniard netted an impressive 20 Premier League goals in two seasons – 18 in his debut campaign – for the Swans, but a series of injury set-backs have somewhat decimated his once promising career, and now the silky start plies his trade in the fourth tier back in his homeland with Langreo.

However, despite his worrying fall from grace, reports claim that Villa made a shock approach for Michu, only to be knocked back last week.

The player himself said: “I’ve had a few offers but I want to be honest with myself in terms of my fitness so I turned it down. I’m happy with my decision and will wait until summer.”

Michu spent last season on loan in Italy with Napoli, but only managed to play 147 minutes of Serie A action, with fitness issues a major blocker.

The former Rayo Vallecano man may, as he hinted, make a summer move away from his current club should he be able to get back to his physical best.

Michu was thought to be considering retiring from football altogether last year.
