According to Football Insider, West Bromwich Albion have made an approach to sign Aston Villa defender Ritchie De Laet on loan before the end of the month.
The Baggies are believed to be desperate to sign a new right-back before the end of August, and have made an enquiry over the availability of De Laet.
The 29-year-old has not yet appeared in the Championship for Villa this term, but has featured on two occasions in the EFL Cup.
De Laet was in the XI that faced Burton Albion on Tuesday night, but there is no getting away from the fact that he has struggled for first-team action this season.
The 6ft 1in ace’s struggles for regular action are somewhat of a surprise when considering his credentials, and the Villa fans believe that it would be a mistake to get rid of him.
Indeed, the club’s supporters have been offering their views on the speculation, and have urged head coach Steve Bruce to block the approach from West Brom.
A selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:
A player that should be playing week in week out for us, awful decision if we send him to West Brom.

Thought he was one off our best players preseason

Should be in the team. Has done nothing wrong apart from playing well when he’s had the chance. Loaning him out would be a major mistake.

Another Bruce masterpiece right here a player that won the league with Leicester, has a brilliant preseason then doesn’t even get a look in because of his favourites (Hutton Elmo and Taylor)

And yet Bruce won’t pick him? Madness 😡 #avfc

Best RB at the club in my view, which is saying something given how many we have!

Insane decision if he goes!
