Aston Villa fans are livid after Sky Sports move date of Leeds clash

Aston Villa fans are up in arms after Sky Sports announced the Christmas clash between the Villans and Leeds United has been pushed back to Sunday, December 23.

The English Football League had originally scheduled the game for Saturday, December 22 but the division’s television broadcasting partner has taken the decision to show the match on Sunday lunchtime instead and bring kick-off to 1:30pm.

The Birmingham Mail understands the change will see the Lions recoup £120,000 while the visiting side gets £10,000 at a fixed rate for use of facilities and a change of date.

Aston Villa were a favourite side of Sky last season with 19 of the Villans’ 46 Championship games shown on the platform, netting the Birmingham side £840,000 in the process.

Leeds United versus the claret and blue side has proved to be an even more key fixture for the broadcaster, who have already selected it for live coverage four times in the last two years.

However, the marginal boost in income for the club has done little to generate support amongst fans, many of whom had already arranged time off work and travel plans.
