Aston Villa moved up to fourth in the Championship table with a 2-1 win against Chris Coleman’s Sunderland at Villa Park on Tuesday night, but Villa fans were concerned by Keinan Davis’ performance.
With fellow strikers Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan set for lengthy spells on the sidelines because of injury, the 19-year-old is one of Steve Bruce’s only options up top and he was named as a lone centre-forward against the Black Cats in what was his 13th start of a breakthrough campaign.
However, the teenager struggled to hold up the ball and the hosts’ play suffered as a result, with goals from Albert Adomah and Josh Onomah enough to give them a narrow victory against the bottom side.
Aston Villa supporters were quick to have their say on Davis’ showing via social media and they were certainly concerned, with one saying the attacker is perhaps “a little overrated”, and another believing he is “looking knackered” right now.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
I know this striker crisis isn’t Bruce’s fault, but with Hogan being so injury prone, the severity of Kodjia’s previous ankle injury and Gabby being such an unfit oxygen theif, it’s not really a surprise. Need to properly look after Davis until January. #AVFC

Tbf other teams have played with the same striker for months, hopefully Davis comes through the festive period unscathed! #AVFC

Snodgrass, Hourihane, Adomah & Whelan worked tirelessly, particularly start of 2nd half when we def presses higher up field #avfc – Davis looked desperately tired and needs nursing through next few weeks

Don’t understand the love for Davis. A little overrated IMO #avfc

Hate to say it but we need Gabby back, Hogan and Kodjia looking likely to miss many months each and Davis can't do it all on his own. That or we play Elmo at ST, which for some reason actually happened in tonight's match. #AVFC

Jedi has to come in for Whelan. Lansbury for Hourihane. If Davis gets injured we're screwed. #avfc

Looks like we’ll need to trade in Hogan in Jan if Kodjia’s out. Davis looking knackered. #avfc

He’s a bit of a loan wolf. Easy to forget how good he was last season. Worst thing is, Davis looks like he’s running out of steam so could do with a rest.
