Aston Villa fans love new owners for sticking with Steve Bruce amid Henry rumours

After The Daily Star had run an exclusive story claiming that Thierry Henry was set to replace Steve Bruce as Aston Villa manager, the club’s new owners came out on Wednesday to dispel the rumours and confirm that Bruce was staying.

The 57-year-old led Villa to the playoff final last season, but after losing 1-0 against Fulham thanks to a Tom Cairney goal and missing out on the riches of the Premier League, the Villans were sent into financial difficulties and had to agree a deal with HMRC to avoid a winding up order.

Now though, Egyptian billionaire Nassef Sawiris and American financier Wes Edens have bought a majority stake in the club with former owner Dr Tony Xia staying, but in the position of co-chairman. This has saved Villa from their money-troubles and ensures that players and bills can be paid and new signings could potentially be made.

Villa fans were generally happy that Bruce had been kept in charge of the club, with many citing Henry’s inexperience as a worry seeing that he has only been a coach with the Belgium national side so far in his non-playing career. Check out some of the best tweets below.
