Aston Villa fans loved Alan Hutton’s performance against Middlesbrough

Aston Villa have taken control of their English Championship play-off tie against Middlesbrough after winning 1-0 in the first leg at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

Steve Bruce’s side delivered an excellent defensive smash and grab performance to go ahead in the match and not give Boro much of a sniff at the other end, inspired by players like Jack Grealish, Mile Jedinak and Alan Hutton.

Hutton was particularly impressive in dealing with the threat of Adama Traore, who was shut down completely by the 33-year-old Scot.

Despite having previously been criticised for poor performances in a Villa shirt, fans were full of praise for the full-back during and after Saturday’s match, recognising how instrumental he was in securing the result.

They’ll be hoping he can play similarly well on Tuesday night, with Tony Pulis’ side set to throw everything at the Villans in order to secure a Wembley showdown for the chance to play Premier League football next season.
