Aston Villa are said to be on the verge of completing a deal for FC Ingolstadt 04 goalkeeper Orjan Nyland – as reported by the Daily Star.
The 27-year-old has been with Ingolstadt since 2015, and stayed with the German club despite their relegation from the top tier at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
Villa, however, are believed to be nearing a move for the Norway international.
The Championship outfit have already secured the loan signing of Andre Moreira from Atletico Madrid, and the 23-year-old could now have a strong rival for the number one position during the new campaign.
Villa have been searching for a new first-choice stopper since Sam Johnstone left at the end of last season following a successful loan spell.
Jed Steer had been tipped by the Villa fans to take the position, but Nyland is now seemingly close to securing a move to Villa Park.
And the Championship outfit’s fans have been reacting to the news on Twitter:
Anyone know if nyland was first choice at Ingolstadt? #avfc

Well number 1 at a bundesliga club can’t be that bad then

Won’t lie it doesn’t inspire me that much 😥 and makes me wonder what is actually going on with regard to transfers

If we sign Nyland I think it’ll be as a number 1. The loan signing of Moreira seems a little strange and guessing he won’t be best pleased. Surely Steer is a good enough number 2?#AVFC

FWIW Nyland looks a big & commanding goalkeeper. Hope it’s a permanent. We can’t count Mark Bunn as one of our options. #AVFC

Nyland would be a very good signing #itk #avfc

The new number 1 then. I don’t see the point in the Moreira deal.

I used to watch Nyland on the Norwegian hills at his time at IL Hödd and Molde FK, stunning keeper! Some say he’s like Zeus but without the beard and the lightning and god status. #AVFC
