Aston Villa fans reveal their thoughts on Merson

Paul Merson sometimes comes out with outrageous comments, and some of his football knowledge is questionable to say the absolute least.

One thing is for certain, however, and that is that Merson could play.

The attacking midfielder strutted his stuff for Arsenal between 1985 and 1997, and also represented Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Walsall before ending his career with a spell in non-league.

Merson, who has been particularly unhappy with former club Arsenal this season, played over 101 league matches for Villa between 1998 and 2002 – scoring 18 goals for the club.

The pundit turned 50 on Tuesday, and Villa’s official Twitter account was on hand to pay tribute to a player that was extremely impressive during his time at Villa Park.

As expected, the Championship club’s supporters were on hand to hail the 21-time England international, who now hilariously struggles to pronounce certain names live on television during his role with Sky Sports.
