Aston Villa fans slam Bjarnason after damaging defeat away to Bolton

Aston Villa’s hopes of an automatic promotion spot in the English Championship are all but over after a damaging 1-0 defeat away to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

The match was a chance to close the gap on Cardiff City, who are due to play tomorrow, but the Villans find themselves seven points behind having played a game more.

Steve Bruce’s side have also dropped down to fourth in the table, with Fulham leapfrogging them on goal difference after a draw at home to Queens Park Rangers.

Fans were left frustrated with the result and performance, with particularly criticism aimed at midfielder Birkir Bjarnason.

The Icelandic international was off the pace all afternoon and failed to deal with the physical battle offered by Phil Parkinson’s relegation threatened side.

After two consecutive defeats, supporters will now be hoping that their side can regain confidence ahead of the play-offs, with promotion to the Premier League absolutely crucial for their long-term ambitions.
