Aston Villa fans on Twitter were fuming with Jack Grealish after his performance in the club’s 1-1 draw away at Blackburn on Saturday.
Grealish was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer transfer window and manager Steve Bruce had admitted that the 23-year-old would have to be sold after the club hit huge financial difficulties following their failure to win promotion via the playoff final.
However, after Spurs and Villa had failed to agree a price, the billionaires Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens took over the Villains and announced that their star man would be staying.
On Saturday though, it was Grealish who gave the ball away in the lead up to Bradley Dack’s goal for Blackburn with 15 minutes remaining at Ewood Park.
Luckily for the youngster though, Villa substitute Conor Hourihane popped up in the third minute of stoppage time with a wonderful free-kick past David Raya in the Blackburn net, but Grealish still took some stick on Twitter after the game. Check out some of the tweets below.
Grealish really is just a slightly better version of Ashley Westwood.
We need goals and assists from him, we need driving runs past people from him, we need to see him give it and then go beyond the striker to move players around.
Not sit deep and go sideways 9/10

Would like to see Bruce go with either of these against Rotherham. Bolasie dependent on fitness and as good as Grealish is maybe he needs dropping to be reminded he isn't a guaranteed starter on current form #AVFC pic.twitter.com/RDs8PbS7TY

Am I the only one that thinks grealish should be dropped? Seems to me like he wanted that move to spurs Bruce picks his favourites but doesn’t go off what’s going to best for a team performance. Baffles me that hourihane doesn’t get started.

I honestly don't know anymore Alex, Bruce as me punch drunk. On Grealish's influence at the minute, in truth its not great, maybe the Spurs talk has had more influence than we all thought. #avfc

Grealish looks disinterested to me. Resembles the 16/17 version who wanted to go down all the time rather than take the opposition on. Playing not to get injured before January #avfc

Unpopular opinion, Grealish hasn’t done a thing this season, gets showed up by the oppisitions “Star” players, slow and lethargic for the most part in everything he does, but we’ll blame Bruce so it’s alright. #AVFC

I’d drop Grealish I think. McGinn looking more like he’s taking the game by the scruff of the neck at the moment. Tough choices to make, I don’t think the players being picked is the biggest problem though.

Grealish bullied today

I might be reading it wrong but Grealish is just trying to see it out till January. Just doing the bare minimum.

Might as well of sold Grealish the way he’s playing.
