Aston Villa line up Championship star as they plot for swift Prem return after relegation

Aston Villa are keen on Bolton’s Zach Clough, with plans for relegation to the Championship already being drawn up, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Villans are currently staring at the abyss with just 16 points from 27 games, leaving them eight points from safety.

Although the task at hand is not mathematically impossible yet, the Midlanders are seemingly aware that avoiding the drop is likely to be too much of an ask, and are already looking at players capable of performing in the second tier, but with enough potential to move up to the Premier League.

And reports claim that Clough, 20, fits the bill.

The 5ft. 7” Bolton forward has been one of the few bright sparks in a disappointing season for the Trotters and was even the subject of a £2m offer from Bristol City in January.

Villa’s head of recruitment, Paddy Riley, watched the club’s loss to Birmingham last week.
