Former Spurs boss poised for sensational Premier League return

The Daily Telegraph are reporting that Tim Sherwood is in advanced talks with Aston Villa over the managerial vacancy at the Midlands club following Paul Lambert’s sacking earlier in the week.

Negotiations with Villa’s chief executive Tom Fox are ongoing, but it is believed that the club are confident of landing Sherwood, which would mark a return to management for the 46 year-old after nine months out of the game following his sacking by Tottenham Hotspur last May.

Villa are keen on making a swift appointment, with the most pressing objective simply avoid relegation to the Championship.

After 25 games of the Premier League season, Aston Villa sit in 18th place in the table, having scored a paltry 12 goals – the lowest tally at this point of the campaign of any club in the league’s history – under the hapless Paul Lambert. Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Hull City proved to be the Scot’s final game in charge.
