HYS: Has Hourihane earned a starting spot for Villa’s clash with Rotherham?

Irish international midfielder Conor Hourihane spared Steve Bruce’s blushes on the weekend as he netted a 93rd minute free-kick to equalise against Blackburn.

The 27-year-old started on the bench for the trip to Ewood Park, but after Bradley Dack had put the hosts ahead with a deft flick, Hourihane replaced Mile Jedinak before curling a wonderful free-kick past David Raya in the Blackburn net during the last minute of stoppage time.

Hourihane has been at Villa since his move from Barnsley in January 2017 and has racked up 72 appearances since then, scoring 14 goals and providing seven assists in that period. He also now has seven international caps for Ireland after being handed his debut by Martin O’Neill in March last year.

The centre-mid will have hoped that his heroics on the weekend have put him in contention for a starting spot against Rotherham on Tuesday evening, and if Bruce wants to start with more attacking intention he should think about dropping Jedinak for Hourihane.

So, Villa fans, do you think Hourihane should be given a start after his free-kick on the weekend? Have your say by voting in the poll below.
