According to our recent poll, the majority of Aston Villa fans would not support a move for free-agent centre-back Sebastien Bassong, despite the ongoing defensive crisis at Villa Park at the moment.
The Birmingham-based side have just two recognised centre-backs at the club right now in James Chester and Manchester United loanee Axel Tuanzebe, but the latter has been playing at right-back under Steve Bruce, with defensive midfielder Mile Jedinak forced to fill in at the heart of the defence.
After reaching the playoff final last season and missing out on promotion following their 1-0 loss to Fulham, the Villans now sit in 15th in the Championship and are way off the pace.
The lack of defenders has certainly played a part in this, with 15 goals conceded in the first ten league games.
Bassong is a free-agent who has been without a club since the summer of 2017, and last played a professional game for Norwich in March of the same year. Recently though he has been training with Queens Park Rangers U23s as he returns to fitness.
However, Villa fans clearly weren’t keen on the idea of a move for the 32-year-old, with 69 per cent of those polled rejecting the notion that he could offer a quick fix. Check out the full results below.
