Former Newcastle manager John Carver has confirmed he has applied for the vacant managerial position at Aston Villa, report Sky Sports.
The Midlands giants are all but certain to be relegated this season, with a defeat next week confirming their plight.
Manager Remi Garde was axed earlier this week after a dismal four months in charge and Eric Black will take charge until the end of this nightmare season.
‘Aston Villa is a fantastic football club and I would say there will be at least 100 applications for this job’, announced the 51-year old.
‘Anyone who has got any ambition to be a manager or a coach at a club like Aston Villa will apply for it and I am no different.’
The ex-Toon chief has been out of work since leaving St. James’ Park in June after retaining their Premier League status on the last day of last term.
Despite the final day success, he won just three of his 20 games as manager after taking the job full-time following the departure of Alan Pardew in January 2015.
