Villa fans on Twitter can’t quite believe Nyland’s double save vs Reading

Aston Villa fans won’t have been too happy after their 1-1 home draw with Reading on Saturday, but many on Twitter were buzzing with goalkeeper Orjan Nyland’s incredible double save during the game.

After the teams went in goalless at the break, Villa took the lead early on in the second half as Ahmed Elmohamady headed in new signing Anwar El Ghazi’s cross. With the score still at 1-0, Nyland somehow kept out an effort from Sam Baldock at point-blank range, with a little help from the crossbar, before getting up quickly to prevent the Royals turning in the rebound.

Unfortunately for the Norweigan international keeper his efforts to keep a clean sheet were for nothing as Villa centre-back James Chester gave away a needless penalty in the 93rd minute, which Baldock duly slammed home to grab a share of the points.

Villa boss Steve Bruce signed 27-year-old Nyland from German side FC Ingolstadt 04 just this summer as well as bringing in Andre Moreira on loan from Atletico Madrid. Despite a shaky start though Nyland seems to have confirmed himself as the club’s number one and fans on Twitter were hoping he would take confidence from the fantastic double save.
