After a prolonged stalemate that was becoming more worrying by the day has been punctured by the official announcement that Birmingham City have been placed under transfer embargo.
Garry Monk is now unable to complete any more acquisitions as he embarks on reshaping his Blues squad to guide the club out of a period of underachievement since the surprise sacking of Gary Rowett in 2016.
There is talent in the ranks already at St Andrew’s, but it is a squad that has been assembled by a variety of different managers with differing ideologies.
There is plenty of blame to be shared around in the Midlands, but one man has proved to be the subject of ire from supporters of both the Blues and other clubs in this situation – Harry Redknapp.
