Ivan Sunjic recently spoke to BirminghamLive about how quickly he has adapted to life in England and his ambitions to play in the Premier League.

"I have settled very quickly, I am happy with that, I know the language and it was easy for me to adapt quickly. I always watched the Premier League since I was a child, for me that’s the best league in the world and I always wanted to play in England.

"For the offence, so many games, the atmosphere is perfect, nothing like in Croatia, that’s why I came here."

This just touches on something that we covered last week when talking about Sunjic.

It’s clear to see that he has settled in well and with Pep Clotet speaking about how the best is yet to come, there’s the potential that he could have a successful career with the Blues.

But the question is, does the club have the ability both on the pitch and in terms of finances to get him to the Premier League and match his ambitions?

With the new signings finally managing to get comfortable and familiar with Clotet’s style of play and showing they can grind out results like they did against Middlesbrough, Birmingham should be able to secure safety this season.

However, sooner or later there is going to be a time when the rubber hits the road and the Blues have to make a serious bid for promotion.

If they don’t then Sunjic's potential will just end up going to waste.

The club made a big statement in signing the Croat, making him the third most expensive player in their history, but they have to back that up at every opportunity.

All these kind words are only going to start attracting people to his services, and if the club doesn't meet his ambitions, Birmingham could find themselves in a continuous loop of promising players using them as stepping stones rather than as foundations for their careers.

This was certainly the case with Che Adams over the summer as he moved to Southampton. Others have done the same to fulfil their ambitions too, such as Demarai Gray and Nathan Redmond.

With that in mind, they must start showing some progress, particularly after making signings like Sunjic.

It's hardly surprising he has ambitions of competing in the Premier League but if they have any desire of keeping him for a long period, they'll have to show there is a plan to make it to the top-flight.
