Towards the end of last season, Jota rediscovered the form that convinced Birmingham City to sign him from Brentford in the summer of 2017.

Under Garry Monk, the winger played all 11 matches following the manager's appointment.

There has been a sense that Jota would be Birmingham's key player, but if he is to fulfil that role, he will need to improve on his performance against Norwich City.

The 27-year-old, who has scored 28 goals in 105 Championship appearances in his career, played on the right wing of a 4-4-2 formation, but he only lasted 75 minutes before being hauled off.

The match was an entertaining one as it finished 2-2, but it was Birmingham who came off worse as they relinquished their lead twice.

Jacques Maghoma and Viv Solomon-Otabor got on the scoresheet for the Blues, but Jota did not play part in the goals as he failed to create a single key pass.

During his 75 minutes on the pitch, he struggled for accuracy and he did not see much of the ball.

The Spaniard did, however, contribute in the attacking department as he created the second-most shots at goal in a Birmingham shirt on the day.

Jota whipped two crosses into the danger area over the course of his outing, but neither met the target.

It is too early to judge as the Blues are just one game into their season, but the winger needs to up his game if he wants to be an influential figure this season.
