Garry Monk has taken a bold stance towards Birmingham City’s goalkeeping situation, allowing both his senior stoppers – David Stockdale and Tomasz Kuszczak – to stay at home while the squad go on their pre-season tour.
That position was likely predicated on the Blues being able to shift the former Brighton and Manchester United men and using those funds to secure the services of a new number one, but the landscape has changed.
Top goalkeeping target Bartosz Bialkowski has signed a new three-year contract with Ipswich Town, fresh from being part of the Poland squad at the World Cup out in Russia, ending Monk’s hopes of landing him to replace Stockdale and Kuczszak.
However, that doesn’t necessarily end the links between the Tractor Boys and the Blues this summer, as forward Martyn Waghorn has reportedly attracted interest from Monk as he looks to formulate a more potent attack this summer.
The close links between the two clubs’ transfer activity led us to ask Blues fans which of the Tractor Boys they would rather sign.
The poll was close, and while Bialkowski understandably came out on top given the mess between the sticks, 47 per cent want Waghorn to add extra spice to the club’s frontline.
