Sheffield United were frugal in their first season back in the Championship but Chris Wilder is reportedly looking to cast aside the financial shackles with a club-record £5m bid for Ipswich Town forward Martyn Waghorn.
The former Rangers forward enjoyed a hugely impressive campaign last time around, with 16 league goals to his name in his maiden season at Portman Road, which has attracted admiring glances from Bramall Lane.
Another second tier side looking to bolster their frontline is Birmingham City, with Garry Monk the man charged with clearing up the mess left behind by Harry Redknapp’s typically scattergun transfer approach.
