Rob Earnshaw labels racism as ignorance

Robert Earnshaw, Cardiff strikerRobert Earnshaw has spoken out about the current racism problems in football via the social networking site Twitter.

The Maccabi Tel Aviv striker, who is on loan from Championship side Cardiff, is the latest player to comment on football’s recent issues with racism.

The 31-year-old Welshman joins the likes of Reading‘s Jason Roberts and Manchester United‘s Rio Ferdinand in speaking out against racism in football and believes it is ignorance or even stupidity that is behind racist behaviour.

Earnshaw tweeted earlier today: “Racism is ignorance to the world. If not this then they are just stupid.”

His comment comes just over year since he claimed racism haunts football following the Luis Saurez and John Terry incidents in the Premier League.

He told the Daily Mirror: “Racism in football is something that has always been there, but in the last 10 years it’s got much better.

“I’ve experienced racist abuse loads of times – in Italy, Montenegro and even at certain grounds in this country.

“The Show Racism the Red Card campaigns are doing great work. It’s all about raising awareness and education.

“Hopefully in the next 10 years it can be eradicated. But there’s still a hell of a lot more work to be done.”

Earnshaw is currently at Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv on a season-long loan deal from Cardiff and has scored one goal in three appearances so far this season.
