Some Charlton fans have taken to Twitter after a question was put to them about the prospect of signing Jonathan Leko on a permanent basis, but they’ve decided to go down a different route.
While a few have actually taken the question into consideration over the on-loan West Brom forward, a couple of others have simply dismissed it and called for West Ham loanee Josh Cullen to be signed on a permanent basis instead.
Leko has two goals and two assists in 11 Championship appearances for the Addicks, but Cullen has quietly continued his fine form from last season having re-signed for the south Londoners back in the summer.
The Republic of Ireland international has been a key player for Lee Bowyer this term, making 11 Championship starts – one fan below said that the team couldn’t function in the same way without the 23-year-old.
It is telling of just how significant he is that, in what was meant to be a thread about 20-year-old Leko, a number of Charlton fans have taken it upon themselves to instead demand Cullen’s loan move be turned permanent.
Let’s take a look at some of the Twitter reaction…
No. He does around 50 step overs a game rather than releasing it. He has potential but apart from pace and work rate.. he doesnt offer much. Break the bank for cullen.

I like him. No doubt he’s rough around the edges, but Bowyer and Jackson can improve him. But Cullen should be the focus in January. He has been outstanding, doesn’t get the headlines but the team couldn’t function the same way without him.

No. Got to get Cullen or West Ham will sell him also push boat out to keep Lyle ( if he wants to stay of course!!)

I would break the Bank for Cullen

The only player we should be prioritising in January is a permanent deal for Cullen and a new contract for Lyle Taylor.

He’s a raw talent but personally would spend the little money we do have on players like Cullen.
Sam Field is growing on me though.
