According to The Mirror, Arsenal have entered the race for Joe Aribo, who has not yet tied down his future at the Valley despite his contract expiring in June. The news surely alarmed the Charlton fans, although boss Lee Bowyer has addressed the reports this week and what he said should ease some of the panic surrounding the talented midfielder’s future.
Well, speaking about the reports, the Addicks honcho said:
“If it’s true then it’s good on our behalf. It means the job we are doing with him is a good job. But I think it’s his agent, if I’m honest. I’m not reading too much into that.
“I spoke to Joe last week, I had a meeting with him. He wants to sign and I think it’s just trying to agree with his agent. Joe likes it here. He’s learning and improving – that’s all you can say.
“He knows this is a good place for him to be. The lad is improving lots.”
Indeed, the interest in one of Charlton’s key players from a top-six Premier League side is flattering but Bowyer feels that there is very little in The Mirror‘s story, despite Karlan Grant having recently made the enormous step up to the top flight – the striker signed for relegation-battlers Huddersfield in January.
The rumour mill tends to creak into life when a player’s future at a club is uncertain due to the imminent expiry of their current deal, and Bowyer indicates that this is most likely of Aribo’s agent’s making.

Clearly, Bowyer is confident that the 22-year-old will commit his future to the Addicks before the end of the campaign but the agent is proving to be an obstacle between the 6 ft midfielder’s pen and the paper – they often are.
The six-goal ace has been a standout performer for the London-based outfit this campaign and is proving his credentials for the Championship should Charlton seal promotion.
