Opinion: Charlton should make a January move for Jayden Stockley to replace Nicky Ajose

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer should make a move for Exeter City striker Jayden Stockley to replace Nicky Ajose as the Addicks look to push for promotion to the Championship.

What’s the situation?

In Lyle Taylor and Karlan Grant, Charlton have two in-form strikers who know where the net is. In fact, Taylor has already bagged 10 times in the league this season. whilst Grant has gone one better with 11.

However, Bowyer prefers to play with two strikers and when one of the lethal pair are out either with injury or through suspension, their replacement is 27-year-old Nicky Ajose.

Ajose is an unpopular figure among Charlton fans, who often bemoan his lack of a cutting edge. The former Manchester United trainee has managed three goals in all competitions so far this season, but Charlton must sign an upgrade if their squad is to challenge for automatic promotion.

A move for Stockley in January then could be the perfect business. The 25-year-old is in fine form this season for Exeter and his 11 goals have propelled his side to sixth in the League Two table.

A prolific goalscorer, Stockley is now surely ready to step up to League One and potentially further after his move from Aberdeen in the summer of 2017.

The former Bournemouth trainee would surely be a better option than Ajose for Bowyer, and there is little doubt that he would contribute to a promotion push.
