Derby County send message to FIFA after Bennett’s goal omitted from Puskas award shortlist

Championship Picks

Derby County have already dipped their toes in the 2019/20 Championship season and they remain unbeaten so far.

After three games played, the Rams have one victory and two draws, placing them in eighth place ahead of their clash against Bristol City at Pride Park this evening.

But if their social media activity is anything to go by, Derby are concerning themselves with something away from the hustle and bustle of the relentless Championship campaign.

FIFA recently published the shortlist of ten nominated goals that will be eligible to win the famous Puskas award, an award given to the best goal of the last calendar year.

And whoever is in charge of the Rams’ social media teams seem to think one of their players was robbed for not being shortlisted, and they’ve taken to Twitter to let FIFA know.

Of course, the goal they’re referring to is Mason Bennett’s wonder strike in the game against Wigan Athletic.

Derby won that game 2-1 and Bennett’s goal served as the equaliser on the day.

After another look back at the strike it’s fair to say the 23-year-old would not look out of place on that esteemed shortlist.
