Brede Hangeland fires Newcastle warning

Fulham defender Brede HangelandFulham skipper Brede Hangeland is ready to turn up the heat on struggling Newcastle as the two sides prepare to do battle on Sunday.

The Norwegian claims confidence is sky high in the Cottagers camp heading into this weekend’s showdown at St James’ Park after a run of three wins from four games.

Bottom club QPR were the latest opponents to come unstuck to Martin Jol’s men on Monday night as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat at Craven Cottage, and Hangeland seeks no reason why they can’t go to the North East and claim a similar result to increase the pressure on the Magpies.

The centre-back said: “I’m sure it will be [a difficult game]. It’s always hard to go there but we are confident at the moment.

“We are playing well, we haven’t lost in a long time and we beat Tottenham the last time we played away, so it’s possible.”

The 31-year-old is clearly very happy with life at Fulham after recently ending speculation about his future by signing a new deal until 2016, and by the sounds of it he never seriously contemplated moving on despite some of the bigger clubs being linked with his signature.

Hangeland added: “I’ve liked it from day one.

“It’s a nice club, it’s got a nice family feel to it, the stadium’s brilliant, the fans are always good people when you meet them and it happens to be in the best part of this county, so this club has a lot going for it.

“It may well be [my last club].”
