Mahamadou Diarra will get a chance to secure a new contract with Fulham if he proves his fitness, according to Martin Jol.
The 31-year-old Mali midfielder’s hopes of staying at Craven Cottage are in the balance because he is due to fall out of contract at the end of the season having made just eight appearances because of a knee injury.
Diarra is not expected to be fit to feature in any more games this term so is already facing an uphill battle to persuade Cottagers’ boss Jol to keep him at the club.
However, the Dutch tactician has confirmed he will give the former Real Madrid man every opportunity to make a full recover before making a firm decision.
Jol said: “Diarra is injured, so unfortunately he’s not in a strong position.
We will look after him and hopefully he will be fit again. Like [Zdenek] Grygera last year, we will have to make a decision.”
