Bemused Huddersfield Town fans on Twitter have been reacting as striker Steve Mounie became his nation's unlikely hero at the weekend.

The 6 ft 3 frontman's international heroics fired Benin to the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt with victory over Togo to finish second behind Algeria in their qualifying group.

Mounie netted the winning goal in the 2-1 triumph, the strike that got the nation to the tournament, much to the confusion of Terriers supporters on social media.

For Huddersfield, the forward has hardly been able to hit a barn door this season, netting just twice in 26 Premier League appearances as the club look consigned to relegation back to the Championship with matches running out.

One frustrated fan simply stated "why can't he do that for Huddersfield?". Meanwhile, others comically expressed their disbelief that the striker can actually score and ironically questioned the credibility of the claims of Mounie's historic winner.
