Che Adams to Leeds United had all the signs of being a transfer saga that stretched right to 11pm on deadline day.
The conflicting reports, the manager and the board not being on the same page and the player wanting out are all recipes for a drawn-out situation, but it seems as if this one will conclude one way or another sooner rather than later.
Phil Hay has stated that Leeds have put a bid in for Che Adams, and they’re now waiting on an answer from Southampton.

However, the Saints can’t dawdle too much on this one as the Whites have set a deadline on a response, and after that date, they’ll move on to another target that they have lined up if the south coast club haven’t responded.
As for transfers at Leeds United, club are waiting for an answer from Southampton on Che Adams. There’s a deadline on this and other strikers are being targeted in the background. Italian interest in Poveda but Leeds still expect to meet with him later this week. @TheAthleticUK

You can understand why Leeds want to move quickly on any transfers they’re attempting to finalise this month as they’ve been stung before because they’ve left it too late.
Nobody will forget the Dan James saga that saw Leeds burnt in the final hours of the January window in 2018, but fear of that happening again shouldn’t stop United from making late signings.
There’s a reason a lot of business is done on deadline day, and that’s because teams are pressured into making their decisions.
Now, you could say that Leeds are creating a mini deadline day type scenario with the Saints here, but Adams isn’t short on suitors as Nottingham Forest are reportedly also interested.
Leeds shouldn’t put all their eggs in one basket with Adams, but they’re heavily limiting themselves with this self-imposed deadline. It’ll be hard for them to find a better alternative as the Saints striker netted 22 Championship goals last term on his way to being nominated for the division’s Player of the Year award.
