Fans hail Mowatt following Leeds’ comeback win

Leeds United fans have sung the praises of Alex Mowatt after he played a crucial part in the team’s comeback win over Cambridge United in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday night.

The midfielder scored the winning goal in the 64th minute to send Garry Monk’s side into the fourth round, where they will meet either AFC Wimbledon or Sutton United.

League Two Cambridge stunned their Championship opponents when Uche Ikpeazu put United in front in the 25th minute.

It was very much a game of two halves, with the Whites controlling the second period after Monk made a handful of substitutions.

Lewie Coyle came on to replace Gaetano Berardi, while Souleymane Doukara made way for Kemar Roofe after Stuart Dallas found the equalising goal.

Mowatt took plenty of the plaudits after the game as he nabbed the winner by flicking in a powerful header from Pontus Jansson.

The 21-year-old has struggled for first-team action this season, making just 13 Championship appearances, nine of which have come from the bench.

Following his performance at the Abbey Stadium, the fans are hopeful that he can force his way back into Monk’s consideration.
