Gray hopes new Leeds United signing Ideguchi can match Tottenham Hotspur’s Son

Former Leeds United winger Eddie Gray has given his thoughts on the club’s new signing Yosuke Ideguchi.

The Japan international completed a move to Elland Road from Gamba Osaka earlier this month.

However, the 21-year-old midfielder has been sent out on loan immediately to Spanish side Cultural Leonesa, who currently compete in the Segunda Division.

Ideguchi will stay in Spain until the end of the season, and then will join up with his new teammates at Leeds for the 2018-19 campaign.

The young player is the first ever Japanese footballer to sign for the Yorkshire outfit, and Gray is hoping that he can make an impact, much like Son Heung-min has done at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

The South Korean has established himself as second choice behind Harry Kane at the North London outfit.

So far this season, the 25-year-old has scored 10 goals and created three assists in 29 appearances in all competitions.

While discussing what Ideguchi could potentially bring to Leeds, Gray told LUTV:

“You never know with players like that. You are looking at the boy from Asia, he is playing for Tottenham Hotspur, Son. Tremendous player. A fixture in their side. If you get a player like that, it could be anything.”
