Leeds United centre-back Pontus Jansson may not have always been a regular in the starting XI under Marcelo Bielsa so far this season, but he showed just how good he is in the 3-0 win against Preston North End at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
Following his participation for Sweden at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, the 27-year-old had less of a pre-season with the Whites manager than his teammates, and he featured for just a single minute of their opening four Championship fixtures this term.
However, the defender, who was signed by the Yorkshire outfit for £3.5m in 2017 following the huge impression he made during a loan spell at Leeds, has played the full 90 minutes in three of their previous four fixtures following an injury to Gaetano Berardi.
The Elland Road fans’ favourite certainly hasn’t let Bielsa down, and he was at his dominant best and showed his leadership skills to help the early Championship pace-setters to a convincing win and clean sheet against Preston.
A Sweden international who often shows he is a class above on the pitch for Leeds, Jansson is surely worth between £15m-£20m now in a market where transfer fees are always increasing and it is increasingly difficult to find a consistently reliable central defensive leader.
