Per Mirror Football, Everton’s new Director of Football Marcel Brands plans to get rid of around 12 players in the coming transfer windows, believing that Marco Silva has been handed too large a squad.
While no names were specifically mentioned, the British newspaper speculate that Matthew Pennington could be one of those who gets the axe, describing his future as uncertain despite signing a contract at Goodison Park until 2021 last month.
And that news could well be of interest to Leeds United, who loaned the 23-year-old out last season. Pennington’s form for the Whites was overall quite mixed, although that was symptomatic of the Yorkshire outfit’s season, but he certainly showed some promise at Championship level.
Marcelo Bielsa is currently in line to take over the managerial vacancy at Elland Road with BBC Sport reporting that Leeds have held further talks with the 62-year-old.
So, Leeds fans, should one of Bielsa’s first acts as Leeds boss be bringing Pennington back to the club this summer? Let us know by voting below…
