HYS: Should Marcelo Bielsa drop Samu Saiz for Millwall trip?

Leeds United attacking midfielder Samu Saiz has largely been a big fans’ favourite ever since he stepped on to the Elland Road pitch for the first time just over a year ago.

The Spaniard is brilliant on the ball, has good movement and has the ability to both pick out a clever pass and a finish, as he showed by getting five goals and five assists in the Championship by the start of December last term.

However, things did turn slightly sour for him at the beginning of 2018 when he was sent off in a FA Cup clash against Newport County for spitting, and subsequently served a six-match suspension.

The 27-year-old has struggled to reclaim his form since then, and he currently has one assist and no goals in his last 10 league appearances for the Yorkshire club – including six outings in England’s second tier this term.

While Saiz has still been a key part of the success of Marcelo Bielsa’s men in the past few weeks because of the quality he has on and off the ball, his form is a little concerning and with a trip to face the notoriously-difficult Millwall at The Den to come after the international break, it may be wise if the Argentine manager drops the Spaniard to the substitutes’ bench.

The attacker struggled in the corresponding fixture in September 2017 and was eventually substituted off in the 72nd minute having failed to make an impact in the capital, to show that it perhaps isn’t the right environment or match for him to showcase his abilities – especially when he may be lacking some confidence.
