Leeds fans have bashed John Cross’ article in The Mirror after he labelled the club’s season a ‘glorious failure’ should they fail in their quest for promotion.
Cross criticised Marcelo Bielsa in his piece saying that the board’s choice to spend big on a manager rather than the playing squad may prove to be a costly mistake.
Fans took issue with The Mirror journalist’s synopsis that the season would be a failure if they don’t go up again.
The Whites have already secured a play-off spot just one year after finishing 13th in the Championship, which proves that huge progress has been made.
Bielsa has wholly transformed the club with largely the same squad that was nowhere near promotion last term.
To judge the Argentine’s first season at Elland Road as a failure would be incredibly short-sighted, the new manager has exceeded all expectations during his first year and has inspired optimism throughout the Yorkshire club.
Here’s what Leeds fans have been saying on Twitter…
I find the term lazy journalism gets thrown around far too easily, but it’s the only phrase that could describe this piece.

The glorious failure isn’t a defeat. Taking us from 15 last season to 3rd this is a success story

not a failure compared to last year and the development of u23s – over achieved …. and the season is far from over

Lazy John Cross at it again. You’ve no idea of the change at Leeds over the last 8/9 months.

Does anyone actually care what the sun/mirror journos write? Clueless beyond belief.

Erm when was our last glorious failure Mr Lazy Journalism….? This is a team that finished 13th last season and with a crippling injury list and minimal new signings he has clinched playoffs and almost a top two spot.

John Cross’ article is a reflection of a poorly informed piece of work with lazy conclusions that gets produced when someone hasn’t bothered to actually watch how Leeds play week in week out. If he had, he would understand what our strengths & weaknesses are. #lufc #MOT
