Leeds United have been linked with a number of big-name players ahead of the January transfer window.
Indeed, the Whites have been touted with moves for the likes of Matej Vydra (The Mirror, 22/11, page 74) and Nahitan Nandez, but it doesn’t seem likely that any of these deals will happen after Phil Hay provided a rather worrying FFP update.

Hay was hosting a Q&A session with The Athletic after the Whites’ 1-0 win over Reading on Tuesday night.
One fan asked the journalist about Leeds’ chances of signing Dwight Gayle, and the reporter’s response gave an insight into the club’s current financial situation.
“His wage is massive. To make it happen you’d have to push the boat up and Leeds are right up near the FFP limit. They could breach it and be damned but that wasn’t the attitude in the summer.” Hay responded.
We’ve known that Leeds have been cutting it fine with FFP for a while after Angus Kinnear gave an update on the situation earlier this year, but this update paints a worrying picture.
For Hay to say that Leeds are right up near the limit is really worrying, and while fans will want signings in January this makes it almost impossible.
This update also means that we can pretty much write off the possibility of some of the recent transfer stories that have emerged such as a move for the £19.8m-rated Nandez.
With Leeds set to sign Helder Costa for £15m next summer, they’ll have to look at being a little more cautious in January in case they fail to go up.
Of course, the sums of money granted from being promoted are huge. Aston Villa were set to earn £170m for winning the playoffs last term.
In other news, Phil Hay has delivered a triple transfer blow for Leeds.
