Leeds United are set to miss out on free agent Sean Clare who is on the verge of signing for Swansea City, according to Sky Sports.
The 21-year-old has been on the books of Sheffield Wednesday since 2016 but has spent the past two seasons out on loan, most recently at Gillingham.
He returned to Hilsborough to make five appearances for the club, scoring once, but the midfielder turned down the chance of a new contract and was released by the club at the end of the season.
According to the report, Aston Villa and Leeds have been interested in snapping up the youngster, but Swansea have won the race for his signature.
Even though Clare clearly is a young talent, he is attracting interest because of his availability on a free, not because he’s one of the best Championship midfielders.
The face that Sheffield Wednesday were loaning him out last season to a League One outfit shows that he isn’t going to make much of an impression on the Leeds squad just yet, even if he may be useful for squad depth.
Even though Marcelo Bielsa is still able to bring in loans and free transfers, it’s time to focus on the squad at hand rather than continuing to delve into the market.
