Leeds eyeing Ivan Cavaleiro: A sign of things to come?

Leeds are reportedly eyeing a deal for Wolves winger Ivan Cavaleiro, so would he be a good signing for the Whites?

What’s the word?

Well, according to The Sun’s Mike McGrath, Leeds are trying to sign Cavaleiro this month, with the Portuguese winger starting just five Premier League games this season.

The Premier League newcomers look destined for a top ten finish in their return to the top flight, but Cavaleiro has missed out on much of the fun, mainly through injuries.

Leeds meanwhile are still a couple of signings short from the complete squad required to surge on and win the Championship, so would Cavaleiro be a worthwhile addition?

A change in transfer strategy?

Marcelo Bielsa has already snapped up one of Wolves’ Championship-winning side this season, bringing Barry Douglas to Elland Road last summer for just £3m (Sky Sports).

While the fee for Cavaleiro would likely exceed that sum, the 25 year-old’s arrival would signify something of a wake-up call from the men upstairs at Elland Road.

Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta have taken much criticism for their transfer strategy, as buying potential can only get you so far. A move for Cavaleiro however is a move for a genuine proven talent, something fans have been crying out for.

The 25 year-old can play anywhere across the attack with his pace and skill, and bagged nine goals and 12 assists in the Championship last season (per Whoscored).

An excellent dribbler and chance creator with blistering pace and a real eye for goal, Cavaleiro could even be the long-term replacement for fan favourite Pablo Hernandez, who will be 34 by the end of this campaign.
